Urgent call to protect B.C.’s marine heritage

Sabine Jessen, National Director of the Oceans Program at the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS), is urging Canadians to call on the federal government to do a better job protecting our oceans and ocean wildlife.

Two sites along the coast of B.C. are in urgent need of protection: Scott Islands Marine National Wildlife Area and Southern Strait of Georgia National Marine Conservation Area.

The Scott Islands Marine National Wildlife Area has seen a dramatic decline in nesting seabirds. Meanwhile in the Southern Strait of Georgia less than 80 southern resident orcas remain.

CPAWS recently partnered with Earth Rangers, a conservation group for kids, to help engage their 160,000 young members to make effective conservation in B.C. a reality.
