Sabine Jessen, National Director of the Oceans Program at the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS), is urging Canadians to call on the federal government to do a better job protecting our oceans and ocean wildlife.
Two sites along the coast of B.C. are in urgent need of protection: Scott Islands Marine National Wildlife Area and Southern Strait of Georgia National Marine Conservation Area.
The Scott Islands Marine National Wildlife Area has seen a dramatic decline in nesting seabirds. Meanwhile in the Southern Strait of Georgia less than 80 southern resident orcas remain.
CPAWS recently partnered with Earth Rangers, a conservation group for kids, to help engage their 160,000 young members to make effective conservation in B.C. a reality.
