International cruise industry’s economic contribution to British Columbia’s economy

Cruise Lines International Association – North West & Canada (CLIA – NWC) has recently published a report analyzing the direct and indirect economic contribution of the international cruise industry to the Canadian national economy and the economies of selected provinces in 2016.

According to the report, the international cruise industry has a significant impact on B.C.’s economy.

Cruise lines spent a combined $54 million on vessel maintenance and equipment with BC shipyards and equipment manufacturers.

Direct spending by the cruise industry in BC – including spending by the cruise lines, their passengers and crew members – totaled almost $1 billion ($982 million), an increase of 24% over 2012.
