During a time when defence isn’t a high priority for Canadians, the Liberal government has committed to spend $62 billion on the Royal Canadian Navy over the next decade. For women in particular, the military isn’t a high priority.
Last month the Royal Canadian Navy invited 80 women leaders aboard the HMCS Regina. The guests were given a tour and shown demonstrations of the vessel’s capabilities. The subtext of the tour was that the Royal Canadian Navy is underfunded.
According to a recent article in the Vancouver Sun, “The day’s message — clearly delivered — was that Canada’s well-trained sailors are doing the absolute best with what they’ve got. So, just imagine how much more they could do with more.”
